Precision Gears, Inc - Custom Gear Manufacturer

Precision Gears, Inc. was incorporated on December 3, 1919 as Precision machine Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. One of the original products of the company was a counter for movie projectors to keep track of the amount of film that had run. By the early fifties the company had begun to specialize in cutting gears. To reflect that emphasis, the company's name was changed on June 23, 1953 to Precision Gears, Inc.

During the balance of the fifties, significant machinery purchases were made to expand the capabilities of the company and to increase productivity. A new location was also needed for more efficient production. In May of 1960 the company moved into a new 15,000 square foot building at N13 W24705 Bluemound Road, Pewaukee, Wisconsin.

On June 30,1962,  Walter P. Steiner, the sole shareholder of Precision Gears, Inc. sold his stock and the building to Gerald Geraldson and David A. Geraldson. Gerald became President and David became Secretary-Treasurer and the brothers each owned 50% of the company. The employed managers were kept on, but the owners were now involved on a full time basis. Sales were flat for the first couple of years, but the company was getting more efficient and profitable. Then sales started to grow and profits were reinvested in the company.

Additions to the plant were made in 1973, 1979, 1984, 1990 and 1995. The facility has grown from 15,000 square feet to 68,000 square feet and investment in new, modern machinery has been continued on an annual basis. Since 1962, in good and bad economic conditions, employees have had steady work. There have been no layoffs and no short hours. The result has been a seasoned and loyal work force. In fact, the employees disassociated themselves from their union in the early 1990's and the union withdrew in 1994.

In 1991, Gerald sold his half of the company to David and his sons, David Jr., Carl and Eric. With succession in place, Precision Gears, Inc. has continued to grow.

Precision Gears, Inc. is a very well equipped, custom gear manufacturer with a diversified customer base. Its largest customer is less than 8% of its business making for a very stable operation.
